“We are environmentally conscious here.” Enchanting Images Esthetics have made the decision to not only create a relaxing and welcoming environment inside their 1,600-square foot spa in Oshawa, but to also incorporate as many green practices into the business as possible.
From simple changes like using a staple-less stapler and asking customers if they need a receipt prior to printing it, to more complicated practices such as suppliers that have environmentally-friendly packaging. Enchanting Images strives to be gentle on the earth.
Every room in the spa has a bin or organic waste that then gets composted by the owners. The laundry room has Energy Star appliances and towels are washed with soap that is free of harmful chemicals.
The spa, which was started by Ms. Manley eight years ago, recently moved from its tiny home in downtown Oshawa to the large space on King Street, just west of Harmony Road. A full service spa, Enchanting Images offers all the usual services from waxing and massages to nail care and makeup application. But what makes this spa unique is how the owners approach each treatment. Every client who comes into the spa for a wax treatment gets her own wax pot-labelled with her name and stored in a neat cupboard for future use.
“This eliminates the need for us to use disposable wooden sticks because there’s no risk of cross-contamination.”
Instead, the spa uses metal sticks that can be disinfected and reused. The same is done for nail buffers, which are stored in bags labeled with the client’s name and reused when the client returns.
“Our facial sponges go home with the client so they can reuse them at home.” “Otherwise we would have to throw them out.”
Sticking with the earth friendly theme, wax strips are unbleached and the owners are currently in search of a wax that will allow them to throw the whole strip into the composter.
It just takes small challenges to make a big difference.
